In it, he asked the company leaders what blew their minds during the conference.\u00a0Of course, it got me thinking about what blew <em>my<\/em> mind at SpringOne Platform this year. A High Quality Event<\/h3>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been to a fair amount of conferences in my career, and this one was truly top notch. Conferences are often draining and it can be hard to keep up the excitement throughout the week. This event felt elevated from the moment I checked in at Moscone Center. You had to be there to feel it I guess, but all these things contributed to the greatness:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Signage and graphics looked amazing and were well themed. Complete with ASCII art and 8-bit renditions of the keynote speakers.<\/li>\n<li>The main stage room was incredible, and the keynote speaker lineup was tremendous. It was a nice mix of tech talks, customer stories, and philosophy. Everyone seemed to engage for the full two hours. That&#8217;s quite a feat.<\/li>\n<li>The breakout sessions were right-sized, on point, and on schedule. And they were well attended! During sessions, the hallways were empty, with only a few stragglers at some booths or on laptops.<\/li>\n<li>It had a fun vibe! Lots of discussion and socializing. Plenty of power strips everywhere. Coffee, drinks and food available at regular intervals. There were even old school arcade games!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We know <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/pivotalcf?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@pivotalcf<\/a> is great at Day 2 operations. Today we see that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/springone?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#springone<\/a> is great at Day 2 keynotes. Open Source is Thriving in the Enterprise!<\/h3>\n<p>When I saw links to GitHub repos in the Comcast and Intuit sessions, it was another mind blowing moment. It&#8217;s been a long road, but we&#8217;re finally there. Open source is in the enterprise for real. And I&#8217;m not talking about using open source software, though that&#8217;s impressive too. I mean that enterprises are <em>contributing<\/em> code back to the open source community.<\/p>\n<p>Comcast <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Comcast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has a lot of stuff out there<\/a>, including a <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Comcast\/telegraf-boshrelease\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BOSH release for telegraf<\/a>. Intuit showed off a <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/intuit\/intuit-spring-cloud-config-validator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">validator<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/intuit\/intuit-spring-cloud-config-inspector\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">inspector<\/a> for Spring Cloud Config. Other companies using PCF like <a href=\"https:\/\/homedepot.github.io\/opensource\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Home Depot<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Mastercard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mastercard<\/a> seem to have thriving public GitHub repos as well. Windows and .NET at a Spring Conference!?<\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/content.pivotal.io\/announcements\/pivotal-unveils-expansion-of-pivotal-cloud-foundry-and-announces-serverless-computing-product\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announcement of PCF 2.0<\/a> highlighted some key Windows-related features. First, native Windows Server 2016 containers for .NET workloads. In one demo, Richard Seroter showed off ssh-ing directly into a Windows container. Typing <code>dir<\/code> into an ssh window may feel weird, but what a relief for .NET developers.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of feeling weird, how about displaying hardware at a software conference? That&#8217;s right, PCF 2.0 will have beta support for Azure Stack. The Microsoft booth had a working Dell EMC server cabinet to showcase it. That&#39;s a working &quot;cf ssh&quot; command against a Windows app. Now. A Who&#8217;s Who of Cloud Native Celebrities<\/h3>\n<p>There were plenty of <em>cloud<\/em> <em>famous<\/em> folks to be found in both the keynotes and breakout sessions. I&#8217;m not ashamed to admit I had my fair share of geek out moments during the week. I&#8217;ve followed a lot of these tech personalities on Twitter for a long time, even before I joined Pivotal. So getting to see or meet a lot of them in person for the first time was super cool. It&#8217;s like bringing my Twitter feed to life.<\/p>\n<p>People like <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wattersjames\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James Watters<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/littleidea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andrew Clay Schafer<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/onsijoe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Onsi<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cote\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cot\u00e9<\/a>. Or legends of the Spring community like <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/springjuergen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Juergen Hoeller<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/phillip_webb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Phil Webb<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kennybastani\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kenny Bastani<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/starbuxman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Josh Long<\/a>. There was an entire panel of brilliant women \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cdavisafc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cornelia Davis<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/meaghnk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meagan Kjelland<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/midatlantictez\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Therese Stowell<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ebullientworks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Erin Schnabel<\/a>, and\u00a0Mathangi Venkatesan\u00a0\u2014 talking about distributed systems. Other giants of the tech community outside of Pivotal even made appearances\u00a0\u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/chipchilders\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chip Childers<\/a> from the Cloud Foundry Foundation, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/erichgamma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Erich Gamma<\/a> of Microsoft, and Google&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/eric_brewer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eric Brewer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I know that&#8217;s a lot of name dropping. But it really was an incredible showing of very smart and talented professionals. RedMonk&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/monkchips\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James Governor<\/a> gave a thought-provoking keynote. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/richwatson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Richard Watson<\/a> of Gartner led the aforementioned customer panel.
