Inspiration Board: Yellow, Silver and Blue

I (Yenta Nicky) had a yellow, silver, and blue wedding, so this inspiration board is a glimpse at some of my wedding details. My flowers consisted of blue hydrangeas and tulips mixed with white and yellow roses. My bridesmaids wore silver dresses from A.B.S by Allen Shwartz. Eric and I found frames at Michael’s which we painted for our centerpieces, and filled with sand and hand-picked from the beach seashells, since our wedding took place overlooking the ocean. Our wedding cake from Hansen’s Cakes was accented with blue ribbon and hydrangeas. We found small silver and blue polka dotted frames at Target to use as guest table name cards! We even had blue and white M&M’s personalized with our names and wedding date on them which we put into a silver bucket for guests to enjoy. I wanted to stick with a color scheme that was easy to work with, and had lots of wiggle room for DIY (do-it yourself) projects. Any variation of yellow can work with silver and blue, and you can always eliminate one of the colors and just go with yellow and blue, blue and silver, you get the idea ;)!

Fancy Shmancy Cakes

Let them eat cake? Sure, okay!

Let them eat vintage cake! Well, vintage in looks, not in actual age because that would be gross.

But vintage-looking cakes are all the rage. Lacy tiers of confection-y goodness make for a beautiful centerpiece on its own little table at your wedding reception. When dreaming up your vintage wedding cake, think about frostings in whites, creams, and pastels. Details like dots, scrolling, and floral motifs should fill up your cake. And your cake stand can complement your vintage dessert if its an ornate metallic piece like gold or silver. If you go for a cake topper, consider birds, scripted monogram initials, or an old fashioned bride and groom figures (this is where you can actually be vintage; borrow your mom’s or grandma’s!)

The fillings and cake flavor can be your choice. It’s the outside the counts. Of course, that’s not what you say about your groom-to-be, but in the world of cakes, it’s all about looks!

Real Weddings | Fallbrook, CA

The secret to Lindsey and Jody’s bond is simple, sports! The now newlyweds met while attending the University of Arizona, where both were working at KOLD Channel 13 News in the sports department. To be completely fair, Lindsey was considered “Jody’s Intern.” They spent countless hours covering Arizona athletics, and a friendship quickly formed. While Jody was impressed by Lindsey’s knowledge and passion of sports, it was her childhood love of the Houston Rockets and Center Hakeem Olajuwon – Jody’s hometown basketball team and idol – that really caught Jody’s attention. It wasn’t until a few years later, with 2,400 miles between them while Lindsey was attending law school in Michigan and Jody was living in San Francisco, when the two realized that they could have something special. All it took was for Lindsey to move to San Francisco, mixed in with a little fog, some rain, a lot of cold weather, and some bad parking…and the rest is history.

Mazel tov, Lindsey and Jody!

Presidential Weddings

In honor of President’s Day today, we may not be at work or school, but still can plan weddings! We want to pay tribute to some beautiful weddings throughout our nation’s history. It’s interesting to go back in time and see the many different trends of weddings through the decades of the 20th and 21st centuries. From the dresses to the cakes, my how things have changed! But one thing’s for sure, the presidential families know how to make weddings beautiful.

While we haven’t yet had a presidential Jewish wedding (unless you count President Clinton’s daughter’s wedding), we can definitely get ideas from some of our country’s leaders or their family members and retroactively wish these couples a hearty “mazel tov” anyway!
