Real Weddings | Los Angeles, CA VIDEO EDITION!

We are so excited once again to present a highlights reel from Tuesday’s Real Wedding! Garner Films captured Jill and Aaron’s perfect day, well, perfectly! We love the music, the camera work, and intimacy of the reel. Highlights are perfect ways to share the wedding day with family and friends who may be unable to sit through a whole play-by-play of the day’s events. We highly recommend you ask your videographer to create a highlights reel for you so you can allow others to have a front row glimpse into the best day of your life!

Thanks A Latke

Chanukah begins tonight! Yes, we know you’re still digesting your turkey and mashed potatoes from Thanksgiving which was a handful of days ago, but our people like to keep things exciting by moving around the holidays to new dates every year. Sometimes Chanukah falls around Christmas which really helps put our Festival of Lights in the Challmark Holiday category, and sometimes it keeps us on out toes, peeking through at the beginning of December. Well, here we are, first week of December and we’re about to start lighting candles, spinning dreidels, and eating fried goodness. Jenny Craig, who???

Anyone who went to Hebrew school knows that Chanukah is about family time, celebrating a miracle, and noshing for eight days in a row. The ancient gifts of gelt have taken on new meanings in the shape of Nintendo Wii systems and iPads. But what to get for the person in your life who has everything? Fun, Jewish gifts.

Our friends at ModernTribe Jewish Gifts are well stocked this year with presents — funny and genuine — for everyone on your list. So how do you say “thanks a latke” to the special people in your life? Check out some of our favorite items that will be sure to put a smile on some of your VIPs.

Let’s start with the man that makes your heart go pitter patter. For those nights out on the town when he doesn’t want to carry a bulky wallet, a money clip is easy, classy, and totally man chic. We love that this one says “Gelt” on it because even the Maccabees would agree that that’s funny. If your man is anything like ours, he already has the newest and flashiest gadgets. But he may need protective gear for his man-toys, so we think these iPad Covers are kind of kitschy and fun. The thematic angel and devil themes should help indicate if your Chanukah sweetheart has been naughty or nice this year. Can’t decide which one he deserves? Get both as a set and let them set the mood. There’s no better way to drink, than drinking in style. The Hebrews certainly know how to party, and they do it with He’Brew Beer. This set of glasses lets everyone know your guy’s drink of choice, while paying homage to our people and the clever, kitschy brand of l’chaim. Speaking of l’chaim, celebrate the life you have together with a classy touch on his dapper duds. The chai cuff links make a great Chanukah gift that your soon-to-be mister can also wear on the wedding day. Future fancy occasions or days in temple will be a little holier with the cuff links from The Jewish Museum.

Tis the season of keeping warm with a little bit o’ looooove, and we might expect to see some new babies popping up within the year. For the babies that are still cooking or the just-born bundles of joy, we have some gift ideas that will give everyone the giggles. It’s never to late for any baby to advertise his or her upcoming Bar/Bat Mitzvah… in 13 years. These onesies help spread the word and save the date. Other threads we love are The Lil Kosher Ham, I Love My Mishpokhe, and the Super Jew Bodysuit. Adorable!

For the cook and/or latke lover in your life, we’re fried with love over this potato pancake stainless steel server. It’s dishwasher safe, too, so you don’t have to lift a finger, literally, when serving and cleaning. And that’s the way it should be on Chanukah.

For the one you woof the most in your life, ModernTribe has a healthy collection of dog presents in time for Chanukah! No chocolate allowed for Rover, right? Well, he can still enjoy some gelt as he squeaks with joy over this Chanukah themed dog toy! Also, add a little extra Jewish “oomph” to Spot’s jingle-jangle with the Mishugana pet tag. Chances are if he’s anything like Charlie or Princeton (the official pups of the Yentas), your dog has a punim that drives you mishugana/meshuganah/meshugena with love, right?

Just like your best girlfriend, ModernTribe has your back! ModernTribe also has ideas for your best girlfriend whether it’s your mom, cousin, or sorority sister. She’ll have good laugh over this one: 2011 Nice Jewish Guys Calendar. Who wants to navigate through the months of the year with blonde hunks sporting glistening muscles and strong athletic equipment when they can drool 12 times a year over some clean cut members of the tribe in polo shirts?! Also, you can help your girlfriends go green by shopping around with this cute little schlepper bag! Perfectly sized to carry groceries or goodies from the Nordstrom half yearly sale, this tote will make any gal look tote-ally cool.

Chanukah is one of the more festive holidays we get to celebrate (no guilt, no fasting, and all that jazz) so it’s likely you’ll be enjoying a few Chanukah parties. That means you’ll need decor and fortunately, ModernTribe has enough Chanukah themed party tchkochkes that could rival the Christmas decorations on Santa Claus Lane. The hanging decorations by Polli have ornate and delicate symbols of Chanukah that you can use for gift wrap or wall art — you decide! Your party will glow with the six-pointed star lanterns that would look fabulous draped across a high ceiling or covered patio. The Jewish take on this modern, party decoration is super chic. ModernTribe has a fabulous assortment of menorahs. Really, they do! But if we had to choose one (so tough!), we would choose the Lalo Treasures Funk Menorah, which, with its bright colors and whimsical shape, will make anyone excited for sundown and candle lighting. Finally, that tried and true dreidel game we’ve been playing since we were kids could afford to kick it up a notch. Thankfully, ModernTribe is the exclusive vendor of No Limit Texas Dreidel. Chanukah + Poker = What could be better? And no, that is not a bluff!

We hope you’ve enjoyed your Chanukah gift guide and browsing through our favorite one-stop shop. Chanukah is just beginning so place your orders now to enjoy them before the last candle is lit. And if anything, you’ll be prepared for next year, which, by the way begins on the 21st of December. Go figure.

Real Weddings | Los Angeles, CA

Aaron and Jill met at a Jewish speed dating event sponsored through hurrydate.com in Los Angeles. Jill was looking forward to a night out with two of her girlfriends who accompanied her to the event. Aaron noticed Jill right away when she walked into the tapas bar and lounge and Aaron chose to sit across from Jill when it was time to take their places. At the end of the event, Aaron lingered a little bit longer and hinted to Jill that he hoped to see her again. Jill ended up only selecting one “yes” match from all the guys at the event and of course it was Aaron. The two went out the next Saturday evening, and continue to be nearly inseparable ever since.

In October of 2009, Aaron proposed to Jill at the same Malibu beach location where he took her at the end of the evening on their first date. The sun was setting and Aaron whispered to Jill to close her eyes and make a wish. When Jill opened her eyes, Aaron was on one knee with an outstretched arm and a gorgeous ring in his hand that he selected himself. Unbeknownst to Jill, Aaron had been carefully practicing the heartfelt words he proposed with for several months. After the proposal, Aaron arranged a surprise dinner with their families and then their friends arrived with flowers and congratulatory wishes.

It was important for Aaron and Jill to add certain Jewish elements to the ceremony and the pre-ceremony that were special to them. It’s clear that they had the wedding of their dreams and even though they met through an evening of speed dating, they made sure to slowly and thoroughly enjoy every moment of their fabulous wedding day.

Mazel tov, Jill and Aaron!

Hanging Up The Details

Hangers. Airplanes live in them.

Hangers. People who apply wallpaper.

Hangers. A unique and often forgotten wedding detail that has the potential to add a new level of chic to your photos.

One of these things is not like the other… so unless you’re getting married inside a plane or you’re inviting your wallpaper hanger to your wedding, the top two types of hangers have no purpose in your bridal plans. But hangers, the kind that hold up your clothes, have business in your wedding?

Yes!

Unless you’re gettin’ hitched in your birthday suit, you’re going to need to change into your wedding gown and this “getting ready” time is key for capturing great photos. Many of our favorite wedding day pics are the ones where the bride transforms from single lady to runway ready. But before you slip your dress on, your photographer may have plans for beautiful, artistic shots of your wedding dress, hanging up in all its glory.

We’ve seen gowns hanging from ornate doorways, open windows, and the tops of four-poster beds. So with such clever and thoughtful shots, why allow your dress to drape from a leftover, plastic Old Navy hanger that you asked to take home at check-out? Your wedding dress is the most important piece of clothing that you’ll ever wear and it deserves an original and special hanger to rest on before it turns you into the quintessential bride.

A cream or white padded hanger complements your gown’s femininity. They are inexpensive and you can buy them for you (and even your bridesmaids!) from HangerCity.com. These soft hangers will also protect your gown and won’t leave any rust or grease marks since they’re covered with fabric.

Kick it up a notch with some sparkle! If you’re a girly-girl with a twinkle in her eye, a bedazzled hanger is definitely for you and your gown! EverythingHangers.com has a variety of Glam Hangers which are beaded on chic, French body designs. Match your wedding colors or choose a neutral, bridal-ish color to showcase your gown. With options in amber, pink, turquoise, and more, you’ll be able to meet the needs of your personal style.

Okay, and now we introduce the ultimate in cuteness for your hangers! Did you know you can get personalized hangers to commemorate your wedding day? Yes! These high-quality wire hangers (not like the ones your neighborhood dry cleaner gives you) are sturdy enough to hold your gown’s weight of ribbons, beads, lace, and any other materials it boasts. We also think that a personalized hanger makes a great gift for your bridesmaids! How cute would it be to stage a photo of all the bridesmaids’ dresses hanging on their own hangers with yours right in the middle?! We have the vision — now you go make it happen! The Painted House and More is a thorough Etsy.com shop that offers beautiful work for your custom orders! The store offers plain, wooden hangers with cursive wire writing or intricately painted hangers with cursive wire writing — the creativity is endless! Also, LilaFrances, the original creator of the personalized wire hanger customizes pieces made 100% out of wire. Take a look around the online store and find your unique style that can be personalized with your name, or “Bride,” or “Mrs. ____” LilaFrances also has a Facebook page that frequently posts updates, so we suggest you follow on The ‘Book. Wire hangers are such a lovely keepsake that displays your dress in the beautiful way it deserves!

Bet ya thought about hangers more than you ever anticipated! This just goes to show that there are so many ways to personalize your wedding and add unique elements in even the seemingly smallest of details. After all, you’re getting married and you’ll want to hang on to these memories of a lifetime.

Friday Favorites | A Feast of Thanks

Yesterday’s Thanksgiving holiday was wonderful. Nicky is in Texas with her husband and his family after arriving safely from a multi-day road trip. Alison stayed in the area with her own family and husband’s family in a combined Thanksgiving celebration where there’s a singing and guitar marathon after dessert. Overall, both Yentas enjoyed a holiday full of family, love, and of course, food! No wonder we like weddings so much; weddings typically also include lots of family, love, and food!

As we take this Thanksgiving time to reflect, we want to share what the Yentas are most thankful for:

Each other! The Yentas make a great team who need each other to survive.

Our readers! You keep coming and coming, and we love that you’re enjoying this site!

Our vendors! We’re so happy to provide a place for you to call home so that we can feature your great work and give you a place to show off your talents in our directory and within the site’s integration.

Our photographers! We are so lucky to have worked with many photography companies who trust us to showcase their work in a way that will not only help their own business exposure, but help other brides in need of a little inspiration. Photographers are true artists capturing real life on the canvas of their cameras.

Our Facebook fans! Our numbers continue to grow. You like us! You really like us! Thank you for being part of the grass roots efforts to promote The Wedding Yentas!

Our dogs! Charlie and Princeton keep our laps warm and our faces licked as we work long days and into the nights to create content and develop new ideas, tethered to our computers. They also provide us laughs we need when they “let” us dress them up in ridiculous outfits (like submarines or Italian waiters).

JDate! We’ve developed a great partnership with the folks at JDate and hope to help their newly engaged successes as they begin to plan their weddings. Mazel tov! We’re also thrilled to be featured on JDate’s open access lifestyle magazine, JMag, and we’re thankful to be part of the JFamily.

Beautiful weddings! Who isn’t thankful for eye candy?!?! We love getting wonderful submissions that allows us a glimpse into a couple’s special day and the countless hours of thoughts and ideas that went into the details of their wedding.

Jewish geography! We’ve connected with so many readers and vendors thanks to the big-but-small Jewish community nation-wide.

Our husbands! They are not only our support system in life, but they are our tech support as well. This site wouldn’t exist without Eric and Bryan. Kisses!
