Glass For Your Wedding Day

By now, you know all about the crowd-favorite tradition of breaking the glass, but do you know what your groom is actually breaking? Yes, he needs glass, but what kind and where do you get it and can you do anything with it after it’s broken?

Yentas readers, you asked for it and now you’re getting it: Today you’ll learn about what glass to use, where to get it, and how you can use it to commemorate your wedding day!

So, a lot of people say that you should use a wine glass. Sure, you can, but they’re not that easy to break. In fact, how many times have you, um, enjoyed a little too much wine from your glass, acquired a case of butter fingers, and dropped the glass? Hopefully it’s not a regular occurrence, but you might find that a fallen wine glass that reaches the floor may not even break, and if it does, the stem will probably just snap off the bulb. But that crunchety-crunch of glass will not emit from the fall, so a stomp probably won’t accomplish it either. Look, I’m no physicist — ha! Far from it! Please, I’m a nerdy Jewish writer! — but something tells me that a wine glass is just not the item you want to place under your groom’s foot. Plus, a wine glass is big, it can roll away, and it’s a wine glass!!! Surely, you have better things to do with it… like drink from it.

Well then, what can you use? You can purchase glass that’s hollowed out and sized perfectly for the hyped-up stomp. Many Judaica stores sell these blown-out glass pieces intended for this tradition. ModernTribe, BFFs of The Wedding Yentas, sells this variety of glass and it’s a great way to go! Plus, they’re pretty!

Pick the color of glass you want your groom to smash and make sure your coordinator or venue manager picks it up for you to take home for after your wedding. You can use the smashed glass to include in your home or Jewish custom items. For example, you can insert your smashed glass shards into a mezuzah or Shabbat candlestick holders. What a beautiful way to bring some of your wedding day love back into your home and serve a reminder for why we smash the glass in the first place (one of the reasons: love is fragile; treat it with care).

For some extra crunch, take sandwich baggie and stick a used lightbulb in there and shove it in the bag that has the decorative glass. It’ll give your groom’s stomp an extra crunch. You could probably use a lightbulb or two alone, but then if you had lifelong dreams to include your smash glass in your Judaica, then that won’t work because there’s really nothing that pretty about a dead, smashed lightbulb. So supplementing your colorful glass with a lightbulb gives you some enhanced noise for additional ruach (spirit), making for a heartier “mazel tov” that your guests will enjoy shouting!

Take it a step further and include a Mazel Tov Stone in your glass smashing! A Mazel Tov Stone is a beautiful piece to add to this rich tradition. The artists work with you to completely customize your slab of Jerusalem limestone that can have your names, wedding date, and other details inscribed. Placing a Mazel Tov Stone under the glass guarantees the glass will break (ohmygosh, how embarrassing if it doesn’t, right?) no matter where you two are standing. Beach wedding on the sand? Garden wedding in the grass? Mazel Tov Stone saves your day… and your stomp.

You and your groom should now be equipped to purchase decorative glass, select a piece of Judaica in which to keep the glass, and include a personalized element that can assist his stomp that you two can keep as a memento from your wedding day. Get smashed with your wine glass on game night with friends, and instead, on your wedding day, smash glass that will evoke the prettiest and loudest “mazel tov!” from all of your friends and family!

Wedding Day Crystals

On your wedding day, you’ll sparkle. Between your gorgeous dress and your neverending smile, as a bride, you will light up the day. And if you don’t mind sharing, you can let some other elements of your wedding day sparkle, too! Crystals add so much glamour and beauty to your wedding details, so whether your craft your own DIY shine or you include the concept with your vendors’ plans, just know you can never have too much glisten on the day you tie the knot!

Pop rocks on a wedding cake?! Rock on! They sparkle and shine … a party for the eyes and mouth!

Your first home that you share together as husband and wife is your chuppah. Adorn it with shimmery strands of crystals that add drama and beauty to your ceremony.

As your guests enjoy their entrees and libations, let them experience a setting that’s unique to your sparkling personality — include crystals in your centerpieces! They can either hang from tall pieces or be sprinkled across the table. Either way, this is a very chic and romantic look for any Yentas bride!

The Best Day With the Best Man & Maid of Honor

Before you start your married adventure, take a pre-wedding adventure. Who says the honeymoon has to happen only once and after the wedding? Bryan and I escaped with our Best Man and Maid of Honor three days before the wedding and it was one of our favorite memories about the big week of “I do.”

As it’s been said many times on The Wedding Yentas, your wedding is like the Olympics. With so many events revolving around the big day, it’s a crazy time with a packed schedule. You may choose to have a bridal luncheon, a Shabbat dinner, a rehearsal and rehearsal dinner, and a day-after brunch, plus additional events that might be unique to your family’s traditions. Either way, it is a busy time full of wonderful events, but still, before it all starts, I highly suggest taking a day to focus on fun that’s anything other than wedding-related.

A couple weeks before our wedding day, we called Brian and Annie and put them on reserve. They didn’t know the details, but we indicated it would be a day of fun. So on the Thursday morning before our Sunday wedding, we whisked them away and off we went to Disneyland. Yes, grown adults, pairs of old friends, an almost-married couple — random location — but we didn’t talk wedding talk and we just focused on our friendships, the very reasons why they were our Best Man and Maid of Honor.

Brian the Best Man met me early on when my husband and I started dating. And Annie, my Maid of Honor had been in my inner circle for years and years, and she was there for the big proposal just 15 months earlier. But Annie and Brian had never spent a great amount of time together, and as the right hand man and woman of our wedding day, it was fun to provide an opportunity for everyone to bond and get on board with Team Wedding.

We spent the day frolicking around the park, going on rides, forgoing wedding diets, and not doing any wedding work at all. Halfway through the day, the skies opened up and poured the heaviest rain! We were drenched in our clothes walking around the park, and wedidn’tevencare. It was heavenly. We knew if we told our families that we were taking off for Disneyland 72 hours before tying the knot they’d think we were crazy because of all the things left on the to-do list, so our getaway was a secret one.

And really, one day off the wedding train wasn’t such a big mistake. The chaos would begin the following day, so having the Disneyland escape was a great way to clear the mind and just remember why the four of us were so special to one another.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the stress of wedding planning and the pressure from family members. The Disney detox was just what the doctor ordered for going back to the basics: friendship, fun, and forever. We created new inside jokes and experienced a common bond. On the wedding day, the four of us were a unit and Bryan and I felt confident that our Best Man and Maid of Honor were truly the best and most honorable; the Best of Honor, if you will.

We all still talk about this day and we may never have anything like it again, but it was something we were so glad to have given our best friends as a thank you for their loyalty to us during our very special time.

So whether it’s a day trip to the beach to relax, a hike through your favorite patches of nature, or a trip to the ball game for some peanuts and Cracker Jack, you can also create some pre-wedding memories to take with you to the chuppah.

Make Your mark. & Beautify!

What do you get when you combine The Wedding Yentas, one of the most successful mark. mentors in the country, and a Southern California wedding photographer?

You get a 2-part series that showcases the ways mark. can help you look the part for all your wedding-related characters: the bridal shower girl, the bachelorette party girl, and the honeymoon girl. On your wedding day, you will look fabulous, no doubt! But unless you have your own personal entourage on retainer, you’ll need to have a convenient, affordable, and fabulous beauty arsenal to help you look your best during all of your bridal events! The Wedding Yentas partnered up with Jennifer Cariker, a leading Mentor from mark. who worked with three fabulous models to artistically apply makeup and educate Yentas readers about how to get the look you want for all your special days!

When it comes to your bridal shower, you want to make sure you are fresh-faced and clean. You don’t need a heavy hand to apply your bridal shower makeup so natural shades that complement your outfit and skin tones should be part of your bridal shower product palette.

On model Kaelia, Jennifer applied an eye shadow duo called Making Eyes in the shade Cocoa. Kaelia’s blue eyes soak up coppers beautifully, so Jennifer’s tip is to use opposite shades from the facial coloring. Eye makeup for a bridal shower does not need to be dramatic, so Jenny chose shades that were natural and soft, but still reflected color from Kaelia’s bright blue eyes. Hazel and brown-eyed girls look great in plum and navy shades! Yes, navy! Don’t be afraid to try it — it’s gorgeous, says Jennifer.

A blending brush worked darker color into Kaelia’s crease and lighter colors into the corners of her eyes and brow bone. She also used a blush called Good Glowing in Cameo Glo. Lips are shellacked in Gloss Gorgeous which is a stay-on lip stain in the color Pop.

Before a girl gets married, she is a bachelorette. And as most brides know, a party for the bachelorette is one of the most fun nights out a girl can have! This is the time to do it up big! Whether you’re going to dance at a club or sip grapes in Wine Country, a festive look makes sense as you celebrate your final days as a bride-to-be!

On Bachelorette Brandy, Jennifer used a variety of shades from the Super Flip Color Kit. Good news: the Super Flip Color Kit features 9 eye shadows and 9 lip colors and it’s currently on sale! Jennifer also applied Just Pinched Blush in Peachy to give Brandy’s cheeks a burst of color. This petite twist-up blush comes in five shades and glides on smoothly, blending easily to provide a sheer wash of natural-looking color. Just Pinched melts onto your skin for a luxurious application and right into your natural pigmentation for a whole day’s worth of cheeky freshness and spunk. Jennifer added some drama to Brandy’s eyes with No Place To Run eyeliner, a gel-based, long-lasting eyeliner in the shade Jet Set, a defined black.

After the hoopla of the wedding day, it’s time to relax or go on an adventure. No matter the type of honeymoon you choose, you’ll need to make sure you pack the essentials without weighing down your baggage. As a seasonal special, mark. is showcasing the look of Ibiza, Spain. Products are inspired by this Spanish island off the Mediterranean and now we are all itching to hop on an avion and have an adventura!

One of Jennifer’s favorite mark. products, Glowdacious, worked great with model Danielle’s skin tone! Glowdacious is an illuminating bronzer and here, Jennifer is applying the shade Shimmied Up. Do you know how to properly apply bronzer? Here’s a tip from our expert: Apply your bronzer on your face in the shape of a 3 starting at your forehead, going to your cheekbone, and ending at your jawbone. This trick contours your face while also blending the bronzer so it highlights your face smoothly. Jennifer also used Ibiza Sol Marbleized Eye Shadow Stick in Aqua Deep. This was applied from the lash line to the crease of Danielle’s eyes. Danielle puckered up for the Ibiza Sol Marbleized Lip Gloss in Chica Coral for a high-shine, nude look.

Applying the fabulous mark. products was Part I of our fun photoshoot, but there’s more to come!

How did their applications turn out? What kind of style do we suggest? How is the final product going to inspire your choices? Check back on Wednesday to see Kaelia the Bridal Shower Girl, Brandy the Bachelorette Party Girl, and Danielle the Honeymoon Girl, as they model the great picks supplied by mark.!

Special thanks to models Kaelia, Brandy, and Danielle for letting us pose and pamper them! Kudos to Kimberly Bayer Photography, Southern California wedding, engagement, and boudoir photographer for capturing the products and the application sessions so perfectly! High 5 to mark. Mentor Jennifer Cariker for providing education and expertise to the shoot and this 3-day feature.

This Thursday, don’t miss your chance to WIN your own prize pack of mark. products that were showcased in this look book!
