Inspired By: Getting Ready Shots

Depending on the bride and the kind of day it is, getting ready can be the calm before the storm. Or, even sometimes, the storm before the calm.

Either way, getting ready for the wedding is a fun and girly time to be with your favorite ladies as you prepare to look your prettiest! Many brides hire a makeup artist and hair stylist to come to the room. Some brides enjoy champagne toasts. Other brides just hang out with the girls and chat away about, oh you know, life and take advantage of a milestone together. No matter what, having your photographer capture these moments as you get ready to walk down the aisle is so special and you have fabulous photos to prove it!

Photos of the getting ready details are just as important as the reception details. Love these two inspiration boards from Desiree and Richard’s wedding by Heidi Ryder and wedding by Becky and Diego’s wedding by Katherine O’Brien.

Inspired By: Sweets and Purples

It’s no secret that a spread of sweets at a wedding reception is all the rage. This display is perfect for noshing on while your guests wait for wedding cake slices to come out and, let’s be honest, it looks really pretty.

A full table of cupcakes and macarons and cookies and brownies and cake pops is never a bad thing. Hold on, I must go get a rag to clean up the drool from thinking about such delicacies. No, really, I think I just ingested 42 trillion calories just looking at photos of sweets! A sweets table not only makes for great photos, but is also a great reflection of you two as a couple! Maybe you have a thing for ooey gooey chocolate chip cookies or maybe your first date was at a cupcake shop. Use the sweets that you and your sweet enjoy, and then share them with your wedding guests. They’ll love you for it!

Take it a step further: Include a sweets table that also blends in with your color palette. This is another fabulous way to bring out your colors without having to use streamers and balloon arches. Instead of shoving matchy-matchy colors down your guests’ throats — “WE LOVE PURPLE! IT’S OUR FAVORITE! OH, AND HERE’S BARNEY THE DINOSAUR TO PROVE IT! WHEEEEE!” — sprinkle your hues onto your sweets table. And your guests will thank you for shoving those down their throats! Mm mm mmmm…

Chairish Your Love

Chairs should be cherished. Or is that “chairished?” Either way, dressing your chairs for your wedding reception can be a fun way to add to the decor or extend the theme of your special day.

A reasonable and easy trend to follow is creating chair signs for the guests of honor! Bride and Groom or Mr. and Mrs. signs that drape over the backs of the chairs look so cute in pictures and make your seating a little extra special. Whether you have a sweetheart table for just the two of you, or you’re surrounded by other loved ones, making your chairs stand out really allows you to be the center of chairtention. (Sorry, that was bad). (Couldn’t resist). (I love parentheses).

Matchmaker Matchmaker for Wedding Colors

Happy Thursday from Alison, your friendly neighborhood Yenta. I just stumbled across something and had an excited-attack, similar to the one I have every year when I have my first bite of charoset at Passover or the first taste of a crispy latke at Chanukah (yes, food makes me excited). But the other thing that makes me excited? COLORS.

I love colors.

My wedding was pink and orange and people thought I was nuts. Pink? With orange? Yes. It works. Trust me!

So, as I was scouring the Internet doing some personal research on nursery colors to complement my soon-to-be baby’s room, I flipped out when I discovered this website and felt like Christopher Columbus discovering America. I wonder if he let out the same girl squeal when he landed ashore? Hmmm…

Anyway, without further ado, allow me to introduce you to The Perfect Palette. If you need to find color combos for your wedding or get some ideas to fit into your color scheme, this is a fabulous resource. You’ll still find all your J-wedding details here, but if you need some inspiration, or to win an argument with your fiance that yes, lime does work with peach, this is your one-stop shop! Or, blog.

Here are some of my favorites that make me all ooey-gooey with color love.

Fluorescent Purple, Lavender, Mauve and White

Dusty Rose, Blush Pink, Peach, Antique Gold, Ivory & White

Aqua, Orange & White

Yellow, Slate Gray & Gray

Sky Blue, Light Yellow & White

Go on and play with all the great combos to get ideas! Happy coloring!

GOTTA HAVE IT: Peacock Wedding

Maybe it’s the jewel tones or the fun flamboyance of the style, but peacock-themed accessories and accents are super hot right now in the wedding scene. And you know what? Yentas approve!

Artists and merchants on etsy offer a bevy of regal-looking and bird-inspired pieces that will add the right amount of pizazz from the peacock.

So whether it’s hair accessories, bridesmaid gifts, or the groom’s boutonniere, there’s always something to peacock-ify!
