Mutual friends made magic happen between Sharri and Justin in 2008. Thanks to two people who knew that two other people should fall in love, a first meeting happened, then a group outing, and finally a date. Sharri and Justin’s official date officially turned into a series of official dates, and before long, the two were officially inseparable. Love struck hard, and about ten months later, Justin surprised Sharri with a weekend trip to San Fransisco with an agenda in mind. Sharri, on the other hand, had no idea. A nighttime elevator trip to the top of Coit Tower brought Justin down on his knee to propose.

Sharri and her mom planned the entire wedding together and had so much fun! Sharri is from South Africa, so she wanted to have a Jewish Wedding with some South African traditions as well. One of them was the addition of the groomsmen under the chuppah whose honor was to hold the poles of the chuppah. Sharri included a lot of personal touches, as well, such as kippot that were handmade by her wonderful grandmother, and the bride wore the same veil that her mom 30 years ago! Rich tradition and deep love: there’s no better recipe for a beautiful Jewish wedding.

Joining a sorority was the best thing Lisa ever did. Her chapter held a party where the sisters set up blind dates for each other, and dutifully, her roommate found Lisa’s future husband. Lisa and the good looking, tall boy named Tyler hit it off instantly after a fun night with friends. Winter break was two weeks later, and Tyler offered to take her plant home and feed it over break to be sure that they’d have a reason to reconnect after break. Miraculously, Tyler’s green thumb kept the plant alive, and so did their connection. Lisa and Tyler still have that plant in their apartment to this day and it reminds them of all the fun that they’ve had together!

Cue the proposal: Tyler decided to plan a special day for them and took Lisa ice skating on the frog pond in the Boston Commons. They followed the skate with dinner at a nice restaurant called No. 9 Park and a movie. Back at home, Tyler presented Lisa with a nice card of pictures throughout the years and old notes. Just before falling asleep, he held out his hand and had the ring box inside. That special green thumb — and the rest of his hand — asked for her hand in marriage, and together they planned a most beautiful Rhode Island wedding.

A series of almost-connections would have brought Leandro and Bela together sooner, but life took its usual course and crossed their paths at the right time. Leandro came to Atlanta in 2005 to start grad school at Georgia Tech and began attending Shearith Israel Synagogue every Shabbat, where he befriended Bela’s parents. Bela’s mom told her she should think about dating this cute boy at shul, but Bela said she didn’t like beards. Mutual friends invited Leandro and Bela to various events, bringing them together to join the same volleyball team and take Argentine Tango dance class together. Still, though, Leandro didn’t ask Bela out.

After spending time together nearly every day for months, Bela and Leandro were responsible for planning a social event for the 20s/30s club at the synagogue. Bela suggested a scavenger hunt around the Highlands, and somehow, every time they got together to write the clues for the hunt, they ended up chatting about everything else. When the clues for the scavenger hunt were finally complete, Leandro finally, finally, finally got the guts to officially invite Bela out. From then on — boom! — it was history. They continued taking Tango lessons, playing sports, and going to shul together, and were married this past September at the beautiful Georgia Aquarium!

The secret to Lindsey and Jody’s bond is simple, sports! The now newlyweds met while attending the University of Arizona, where both were working at KOLD Channel 13 News in the sports department. To be completely fair, Lindsey was considered “Jody’s Intern.” They spent countless hours covering Arizona athletics, and a friendship quickly formed. While Jody was impressed by Lindsey’s knowledge and passion of sports, it was her childhood love of the Houston Rockets and Center Hakeem Olajuwon – Jody’s hometown basketball team and idol – that really caught Jody’s attention. It wasn’t until a few years later, with 2,400 miles between them while Lindsey was attending law school in Michigan and Jody was living in San Francisco, when the two realized that they could have something special. All it took was for Lindsey to move to San Francisco, mixed in with a little fog, some rain, a lot of cold weather, and some bad parking…and the rest is history.
